Comic books, comic book memorabilia and comics.

Introduction.

Ever since the first comics appeared there has been a thriving trade collecting original and old copies, as well as a steady growth in buying and selling various memorabilia associated with them. Of course the ideal market for this global trade is the internet, allowing people from anywhere in the world to bid for and obtain the treasured item that they seek.

Comic books.

The very first comic books were simply collections of comic strips that appeared in newspapers. Subsequently the term comic book is often misconstrued as meaning something that is humorous; whereas in actual fact most comic books were written with a serious concept in mind. Take for example the comic characters Superman or Batman. Neither of them would be seen as comic characters, even if some of the story lines in the comics were rather unlikely. The only real link between characters in comic books, as we know them, and the original collections of comic strips is that both are presented as cartoons. American cartoon comic books have, over time, become a classic American art form - one reason why some early comic books are in such high demand. There is a link from the idea of a classic comic cartoon book to the modern day, in that Disney will often follow up the release of a cartoon movie with comic book cartoons of it; as a market extension to the movie.

Comic book memorabilia.

As well as collecting comic books some people also enjoy buying and collecting memorabilia to do with them. These artifacts can be anything from a Flash Gordon ‘Ray-Gun’ to a Spiderman costume. Whilst some people may be buying them to wear at a fancy dress party or special event; there are also those who will buy them as an investment opportunity.

Comics or comic books?

The use of the term comics can be quite confusing to anyone who does not have English as their first language. By saying comics you could be referring to comic books or standup comics, meaning comedians. The internet is an ideal place to obtain books, DVDs and other material by top international comics like Seinfeld. So, whether you want a Disney cartoon comic book or the latest DVD of a standup comedian’s performance; use your favorite search engine to find it on the internet.
